Rules of the River:
These Rules protect the river’s future
ALL LAND IS PRIVATELY OWNED.
Camp ONLY when land is not posted “No Trespassing”. Be responsible campers.
There are miles of open land and public campgrounds.
NO GLASS ALLOWED, CANS ONLY.
FIRE permits are required for all fires.
DO NOT cut live trees, use down or dead wood for campfires.
FIRES ON SAND BARS ONLY.
Trash must be picked up and carried out. Dumpsters are at all pick up/take out points.
Human waste must be buried in 6 inches of soil, not in the sandy beaches.
A small camp shovel works excellent.
Keep noise level to a low level. Be courteous and respect the rights of others.
Drunken and rowdy behavior is not tolerated.
Drive cautiously, 10 mph. at the take-out and put-in areas.
At take-out points remove canoe/gear promptly.
Follow directions of Saco River Recreation Council staff or “River Runners” as they are known.
Canoeing on the Saco River can be great fun when everyone respects the river and each other.
